30 Seconds To Mars – Hurricane (Director’s Cut)

In the last few years 30 Seconds To Mars has been know to be the band to beat when it comes to fantastically visual and high budget music videos. The 3 member band has been taking their fans and viewers on epic journeys in their videos, from Chinese temples, to the streets of LA filled with hipster cyclists. As the videos have become more and more elaborate, there has been speculation that they are spending money in the millions to create their 12 minute average length music videos, and their questionable director Bartholomew Cubbins; Jared Leto’s directorial alias taken from a Dr. Seuss character.

But I have always been more interested in the videos themselves, they are always shot professionally, and they all tend to carry a certain magic to them. I am always taken on a journey in a 30 Seconds To Mars video, and I think this is exactly what artists should be doing with their music video money. Create something that takes the audience on a journey and leaves them feeling fulfilled. There are only so many more times I can see a male or female artist rubbing their ass up against some backup dancer.

In their new video, Hurricane, 30 Seconds To Mars has crossed a boundary I never thought could or would be crossed in a music video, and that is artful pornography. This video mostly contains imagery of the band members themselves in some sort of an idealized superhero fight sequence, but there area also scenes filled with tasteful S&M, words I never thought I would write. Watch the video below for yourself to make up your mind, but as for me, 30 Seconds To Mars has yet again not failed to disappoint when it comes to pushing the boundaries and creating a mini film for a music video that will blow you away!

  1. I needn’t leave a long and elaborate response so I will simply say…I agree and you should be rewarded for actually opening your minds…that is all.

  2. I’m literally not sure what to say about that, haha. It’s like a bunch of really cool tiny videos mish-mashed into one. I like it, but I get no sense of coherency out of it..it seems more discordant than most of the other things they’ve done. That being said, pretty awesome imagery…surprisingly explicit at times. This is kinda something everyone will have to make up their own minds about.
